Abstract:

Tooth enamel is the most mineralized tissue of human body. VHN difference between enamel and dentin is a result of the difference in the organic and anorganic materials contents.
Because the structure that enamel and dentin present, prisms aligned from the enamel – dentin junction to the surface in the case of enamel, it is easy to imagine that their hardness values are different. The goal of the study is the determination dental VHN. Material and method: The teeth extracted was sectioned either transversally and longitudinally, parallel to the oclusal surface, using diamond Knoop. Results and discussions: In sound human enamel, the hardness values, the mineral content and the density gradually decrease from the outer surface to the EDJ. Hardness reported for dentin also varied. It is significantly greater near the EDJ than near the pulp. Conclusion: The tooth Vicker hardness values do not show any change from the outer enamel surface to EDJ.
