Material and methods: The study comprises a number of 58 patients, examined and treated in the Clinic of Neurology, the Hospital of Neurosurgery Iaşi, with diverse forms of epilepsy, who were neurologically and periodontally evaluated.
Results: The periodontal exam showed various degrees of gingival overgrowth from the Ist degree to the IVth degree in 33 patients from the total of those examined, after medication with Phenitoin, Carbamazepine and Sodium valproate.
Conclusions: Although the pathological mechanisms re still incompletely elucidated, the bacterial plaque is an important factor in the appearance of the periodontal manifestations in epileptic patients.
