THE MICROBIAL BIO-FILM AND THE IMPLANTED SURFACE AT THE PATIENT WITH THE PERIODONTAL DISEASE

Abstract:

The similarity in the microbiota between teeth and implants in partially edentulous patients has been confirmed by several studies comparing the microbiota between both abutment types at 6 months or later after abutment insertion.Implants with peri-implantitis reveal a
complex microbiota that includes conventional periodontal pathogens. Matherial and Methods: In the present study, we tried to identify the similarities in microbiota of teeth and fresh peri-implant sulci in patients with a history of periodontisis. Results: The ratio of
anaerobic/aerobic species was relatively constant for both types of pockets, with a lower bacterial load in periimplant sulci. Conclusions: The patients with a preexistent periodontal disease represent a risk for developing peri-implantitis that should not be neglected,
since the colonization of the fresh peri-implant pockets involve periodontal pathogens.
