Abstract:

The study aims at determining whether dental erosion varies as a function of the gastro-oesophagian reflux and age of the patient. Observations were made on 50 patients suffering from gastro-oesophagian reflux (RGE), caused by gastro-duodenal ulcer, and on 32 clinicallyhealthy patients, who came in the Department of Odontology and Periodontology of the Faculty of Medical Dentistry of Ia[i with various dental problems. The patients were questioned on the symptoms characteristic to the gastro-oesophagian reflux, such as gastric juice regurgitation, epigastric pain and heartburn sensation. Oral examinations quantified the losses of dental structure, by means of index TWI described by Smith and Knight (1984). Statistical analyses showed that the patients suffering from RGE had erosions at the level of the maxillary incisors, and high values of the TWI index, proportional with the duration of the general affection. A statisticallysignificant correlation was established between the two variables.
