Abstract:

Joint noises are the most common sign of joint dysfunction that are observed at more and more subjects. While performing mandible dynamics, under the action of muscles, between the mandible and maxilla some dynamic connections are established (skeletal and occlusal). Joint dysfunction may be the result of an affected mechanism of the mandible reflex positioning. We have followed the correlation of noise with the joint muscle pathology, analyzing the mandible movements on the patients who had a noise at the ATM level. We conducted an observational study on an analytical sample made of 48 subjects aged between 16 and 76 years. The clinical evaluation was done through investigation, palpation, thumping and auscultation, both at postural rest and in mandible dynamic. We examined the joints, muscles, bones, dental and periodontal structures. We made recordings of the patterns of mandible dynamics by using the K7 system (kinezimandibulography). The kinezimandibulography investigation confirmed the existence of joint disorders that prevented the movement of the mandible within its usual patterns.
