Abstract:

Dental caries represent one of the most frequently spread chronic pathologies in children, being nowadays considered a public health problem worldwide. In this respect, a cross-sectional study for evaluating the prevalence and distribution of oral diseases in an urban community formed of 6-8 year-old children was conducted. 58 first graders were included in the study over a period of one year. The dental status was evaluated along with the health behavior and dental caries experience. High dental caries prevalence and, consecutively, notable interregional differences were observed. The treatment needs are high, and prompt intervention is required in order to preserve future dental health in the community.
