Abstract:

Treatment of Class II malocclusion with severe crowding can be possible without extraction, if a correct diagnosis is attained. The present article describes the orthodontic treatment in a female patient (11 year and 1 month-old) diagnosed with Angle’s Class II malocclusion on an underlying Class I skeletal base, with severe maxillary crowding, labially placed upper left canine and deviated upper dental midline. The orthodontic treatment plan was accomplished in two phases: the former phase involved bilateral maxillary molar distalization using pendulum appliance, and the latter consisted of fixed mechano-therapy. The post-treatment results fulfilled patient’s expectation, namely improvement in both facial aesthetics and occlusal traits. The case report demonstrates that some malocclusions with severe crowding can be treated without extraction using pendulum appliance, a rapid and effective method for correctly treating the selected cases.
