Abstract:

Introduction. The primary objective of this study was to determine the most common cause of extraction after RCT in patients addressing the King Khalid University Dental Clinic. Materials and methods. 100 patients were selected from various dental specialists. Details related to various causes of extraction, types of coronal restoration, quality of endodontic treatment and types of endodontic error were included. Results and discussion. Most of the 100 patients (64%) considered for this study (76 females and 24 males; mean age 36.02±11.70), who decided to undergo extraction, visited the endodontic clinic. The most common cause of extraction was represented by non-restorable teeth due to recurrent caries (55%), whereas tooth prosthodontic errors (5%) were the least common cause for extraction.  Conclusion. This study shows that, in our study population, endodontically treated teeth were predominantly extracted because they were non-restorable, due to recurrent caries.
