LARGE RADICULAR AND RESIDUAL CYSTS OF THE MANDIBLE – A THREE CASE REPORT

Authors: Tsvetan TSVETANOV

Abstract:

The residual cyst is a formation derived from a radicular one (localized around tooth apex) and from other types of cysts formed after teeth removal. Most of the cases evidenced no clinical symptoms, being discovered accidentally on radiographic examination. However, other symptoms were observed, such as swelling, discomfort, dull pain, etc. The treatment approach includes total surgical extirpation; when the cyst has a large size, total removal being impossible, the marsupialisation method is applied (cyst cavity is adjacent to the oral cavity). The present paper presents three cases of cysts:– the first – a radicular cyst, and two cases of residual cysts, describing their medical history, the clinical, radiological symptoms, histopathological examination and suggesting a surgical protocol. In all cases, the postoperative period revealed no complications.
