Abstract:

The mechanical behavior of periodontal ligaments belongs nowadays to the field of biomechanics. In this study, we investigate the vibrations of periodontal ligaments (PDL) under load as, by identifying the parameters of the system, one can obtain a series of data reflecting coupling of the tooth with the alveolar region. We started from the hypothesis that a tooth fixed in the alveolus and periodontal tissue is equivalent to an oscillating system with several degrees of freedom. We investigated the periodontal support of the abutments on which a three-element FPD was manufactured using the ultrasonic Doppler method of measuring tooth movement, known as a new testing method providing quantitative and accurate results.
